2021 Camp Highlights

Wisdom Knot (WK) Camp 2021 was an absolute success with thanks to our generous supporters. We provided the education, attention, and enhanced self-awareness that every single one of our kids deserves.

Because we wanted to be as safe as possible due to COVID, our 2021 camp took place on a single day at an outdoor venue. Our campers were on the court and ready to go before registration had even started. There was an eagerness and engagement that is unmeasurable and it was a great way to start the day. The WK mission is focused on combining the sports skill set (in this case basketball) with the enhancement of self-awareness, character-building skills, and the knowledge of careers outside of the athlete path.

Throughout the day our amazing WK campers paired with a basketball coach and team to work the entire camp through drills of all kinds. From footwork to handles, these kids were working hard with the soaked Wisdom Knot camp shirts to prove it. This pairing also allowed the coaches to continue sending the right messages about challenging the campers’ strengths, growth edges (I do not like to use the word weaknesses), and their mental toughness.

Campers engaged in another teaching moment around what communication is, on and off the court, and how this can benefit them as future leaders, teammates, and community members. The afternoon was spent discussing communication within the context of social media as well as learning about careers in sports journalism, coaching, and sports medicine.

Many thanks to the Wisdom Knot board members who spent the day making sure the youth had a wonderful time. Our founder Wendy Borlabi and Board president Tammy Reed Tran handled much of the behind-the-scenes work, while board members Julius Rhodes and Brian Blitz were an integral part of our activities and keeping the energy high all day, often taking campers off the court to have one on one sessions that left them feeling empowered and confident. We are especially appreciative and proud of this aspect of the camp as those messages are the ones that make an impact on our youth.

The greatness that was the 2021 Wisdom Knot camp experience was possible because of our amazing staff of volunteers, coaches, leaders, and incredible supporters. We couldn't feel more hopeful and inspired by the amount of support that was provided to make this dream a reality.
